The ultrastructure of the interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) in the oesophagus of the monkey resembled that described in the oesophagus of other mammalian species but differed in their paucity and almost lack of smooth endoplasmic reticulum, caveolae and filaments. The plasmalemma of the ICC was in close contact (20- to 30-nm gaps) with that of smooth muscle cells. This may occasionally take the form of a desmosome, but gap junctions have not been observed. Vesiculated axon profiles, containing large granular or agranular vesicles were in close contact (20- to 30-nm gaps) with the plasmalemma of ICC. In a few vesiculated profiles a presynaptic density could be recognized. The intercalation of the ICC between the vesiculated axon profiles and the smooth muscle cells suggest a role in oesophageal motility. Between 3 and 21 days following bilateral vagotomy some ICC showed regressive changes such as increased electron density and shrinkage of the cytoplasm, crowding of the organelles and dissolution of the nuclear chromatin material. Axon profiles in the vicinity of the affected ICC contained glycogen granules suggesting injury. In late stages, the number of ICC and smooth muscle contacts was reduced. The results suggest that the vagus nerves exert a trophic influence on the ICC and that the intercellular relationships between ICC and smooth muscle cells possess a degree of plasticity. It is tentatively suggested that these vagal effects may be mediated via the oesophageal myenteric ganglia. 相似文献

The Salmonella typhimurium araC gene product is known to be susceptible to proteolytic degradation. Limited cleavage by trypsin, kallikrein, elastase and pronase E yields stable fragments comprising approximately the N-terminal two thirds of the AraC protein. These fragments have in common the ability to dimerize in solution and to bind L-arabinose and D-fucose. Under appropriate conditions, hydrolysis of the AraC protein with Staphylococcus aureus V8 protease leads to a small C-terminal fragment which is able to bind specifically to a synthetic ara consensus sequence. These results indicate that, as with several other prokaryotic gene regulatory proteins, the basic functions of effector binding, subunit interaction and specific DNA binding are segregated into distinct domains of the AraC protein. 相似文献

Delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) response in mice induced by sc injection of alum-absorbed ovalbumin (OA) was accelerated and enhanced by priming sc with a low dose of urea-denatured ovalbumin (UD-OA), 2 or more days earlier, whereas it was suppressed by priming sc with a high dose of UD-OA, 0 or more days earlier. The ability in primed mice to accelerate or suppress the DTH response could be transferred antigen specifically into cyclophosphamide (CY)-pretreated recipients or normal recipients by spleen cells from primed mice, but not by the T-cell-depleted spleen cells. Furthermore, the ability of spleen cells to transfer the acceleration or the suppression appeared transiently around 7 or 4 days after priming, although the acceleration or the suppression in donor mice persisted for a much longer time. Pretreatment with CY abolished the suppression of DTH response in high dose-primed mice and resulted in the acceleration of DTH response. These results suggest that the activity of DTH-related memory T cells which accelerate and enhance the response can be inhibited by suppressor T cells for the DTH response. 相似文献

When rats received glucagon or insulin every 2 h after partial hepatectomy (Hx), hepatic putrescine content was increased above control levels at 6 and 12 h, respectively. When the two hormones were combined, the increased levels were additive. Hepatic ornithine decarboxylase activity was above control levels at 12 h after insulin treatment. Hepatic spermidine N1-acetyltransferase activity was enhanced at 6 h only when glucagon was dosed. Putrescine administration from 0 to 4 h or from 6 to 10 h increased hepatic DNA synthesis to similar levels 22 h after Hx. These results suggest that glucagon and insulin additively stimulate hepatic putrescine production after Hx. This may explain the cooperative stimulation of liver regeneration by both hormones. 相似文献

The enlarged inhalant siphon of Fungiacava eilatensis opens into the coelenteron of species of fungiid corals with which it lives in commensal association. Material consisting of mucus, zooxanthellae, nematocysts, plankton and inorganic matter, is taken exclusively from the coelenteron. The very mobile foot possibly assists in food collection and in the removal of pseudofaeces; but, with large ctenidia, the bivalve is a typical ciliary feeder. Experiments with labelled zooxanthellae reveal that these are taken into the gut of Fungiacava with subsequent metabolic incorporation of products derived from them. The other prime source of food must be phytoplankton carried in with the feeding currents of the coral, itself carnivorous so that there is no competition for food between commensal and host. The Fungia zooxanthella– Fungiacava association operates as a "Troika" the productivity of which is autoregulated in proportion to the number of bivalves present. The inorganic wastes of the bivalve (as well as those of the coral) are utilized by the zooxanthellae, resultant increase in the algal component becoming available as food to the bivalve.
